This is the first volume of the tutorial series “Look Development” and is the foundation for working on look development by using two of the most standard and established tools used in VFX studios around the world (Katana and RenderMan).
In this online course, the viewer will learn about the PxrSurface shader and all its components and lobes; from the principal ones as Diffuse and Specular up to the more complex ones as Fuzz and Subsurface Scattering.
This course has been designed for beginner students and professionals new to RenderMan in order to use it as the main introduction to materials and look development in Katana and RenderMan.
After viewing this course, people can expect to be able to create their own materials using the PxrSurface shader and to gain a general understanding of working with RenderMan and its PBR approach to authoring materials. Additionally, people will get familiar with Katana as a host application for look development and rendering.
As Senior Look Development and Lighting artist, I found that the content of this course is the foundation of any look development workflows in modern pipelines.
